Overview
Five siblings share December birthdays, and this year they traded the usual group dinner for an island escape. The brief: Atlantic sun in the middle of winter, Creole music and food, and unstructured beach days to simply be together, with a few surprises woven in for each birthday.
The Challenge
Five adult siblings, five different ideas of a good birthday: some wanted stillness and spa days, others wanted watersports and nightlife. December is peak season in Cabo Verde, so villas, flights, and the best tables book out early, and every sibling's arrival had to land within the same window without anyone feeling rushed or left out.
The Approach
Each sibling filled out a preferences quiz, and the week was paced to alternate high-energy and restful days so no one had to choose between rest and adventure. A single villa with room to gather anchored the trip, a local driver and host handled transport and reservations, and one birthday dinner per sibling was quietly arranged in advance, each tailored to that sibling, plus a shared surprise on the final night.
The Itinerary
Sal · Arrival & Santa Maria
Villa check-in, a slow first day on Santa Maria beach, and a welcome dinner of cachupa and fresh grilled fish as everyone lands.
Sea & Salt
A catamaran day on the Atlantic, the salt flats and natural pools at Pedra de Lume, and free afternoons for watersports or the spa, whichever each sibling chose.
Boa Vista · Dunes & Dinner
A day trip to Boa Vista's Viana desert and endless beaches, then the shared surprise: a private beachfront birthday dinner with live morna music under the stars.
One Last Sun
A final slow morning, last swims and market browsing in Santa Maria, and staggered transfers home, tanned and closer than when they arrived.
The Outcome
Five birthdays, one week, no one left wanting. Each sibling got a day that felt like theirs, and the group got the thing they'd actually come for: uninterrupted time together in the winter sun. The December dinner tradition has a new home.
